iOS app min. requirements and their future

pespes   August 18th, 2012 8:32a.m.

First a bit of background. I am a huge fan of mobile skrittering, from the moment I wrote my first character with my finger, I knew I could not really go back to using mouse. When the iOS app was still in development, I got myself a new android phone, its support for flash and the ability to skritter being major deciding factors. Now flash is no longer supported and behaves funny and I hear left and right how awesome the iOS app is.

So I'm thinking of buying an iPod touch, sort of a dedicated skritter device. My research shows that an updated 3rd gen iPod should be able to run the app, the skritter app press information tells me I need a 4th generation. I intent to spent as little as possible but I also want to avoid having an obsolete device in a few months (the sort of thing that happened with my phone).

Finally, my question: how likely are the minimum requirements to change in the next year or so? Will a 3rd gen iPod be enough? I am mostly interested in the Japanese version but I'd appreciate info on both.

will suggest wait for a few days. Applie might upgrade the existing iPod with some better hardware with the pending Iphone release. Buy that for better Skritter experience.

@Sandeep I will wait at least until the Japanese app is out. I don't really follow the news on Apple so thanks for the suggestion.

3rd gen will not run the app, you will need a 4th gen.

However, 4th gen tech is now almost 2 years old, and struggles a fair bit. It is expected an updated ipod touch will be announced in September. Wait for it.

I don't follow the Apple news or rumors either, so I always just look at this:

The minimum hardware requirements are not likely to change soon, although some new features might not be available on the older devices.

Alright, I will wait. This has been very helpful, thanks everyone.

I use it on an iPod Touch 3rd Gen without any problem. (4th gen has a camera, right?).

I am curious about new features, but I'll wait with everyone else...
