Dear All ,

today i have downloaded the app for iphone to start learning to read and write chinese.
I started the trial and it just straight away asking me to write ni , ta , zao and etc . I have zero knowledge before about it and i have tried several times to double tap and make the same strokes but i am not getting the idea what is going some words will repeat again and sometime a new word will come.

Is there any guideline how to use the app and its function. For the Entry level like me.

It's called spaced repetition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaced_repetition). The better you know the words the faster Skritter will add new ones. (You can tweak these in your profile here setting your target retention rate and speed.)

I liked the Short-term Spoken Chinese series, now my wife has started learning Chinese and she is using this also. As she also can read and speak a few hundred of Chinese characters / words, she quickly went through the Threshold books and then started learning from the Elementary book onward. You can see the Threshold list here: http://www.skritter.cn/vocab/list?list=list16
The books are available in China.
You can also buy books from Amazon.cn (you might need a Chinese friend to help you), payment can be made by cash on delivery.
Have a look on other books under Skritter > Vocab Lists > Textbooks.

I would reccommend Road To Success "Threshold" 成功之路series by BLCU. You can buy it in another big bookstore in Beijing or Shanghai.

I suggest you buy the book http://www.amazon.com/Remembering-Simplified-Hanzi-Meaning-Characters/dp/0824833236/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377551636&sr=8-1&keywords=remembering+hanzi and use skritter on partial study mode for that textbook list to learn the characters in it (i.e. testing writing and definitions). You can read the preface to that book on "amazon lookinside" before buying to see its philosophy. I personally think this is a more logical way to learn characters at the beginning for foreigners, but does mean will be a while before learn characters for I, you etc. so will have to develop your spoken via pinyin for a while, then merge the streams of learning later.
