Has anyone used The Routledge Course in Modern Mandarin Chinese ?

I am going to start using this soon. Or should I use something else?

I started recently with Speak Mandarin in 500 Words - English Version

If possible, I would just find a local college and take classes there. If your goal is to learn and not get credit you should be able to audit a class for a decent price. It will be much more effective than teaching yourself.

I think that's good advice there for when you're first starting off. Later on though, I'd suggest having a look at chinesepod.com . It's not a structured course, but the language is good/useful and not textbookised. It's also quite enjoyable to listen to.

I second the comment about chinesepod. It's an excellent resource and has great production quality.

I can't join a local uni at this moment, I will do so when I move to Sydney, they have some interesting classes there

@Mskritter: check out the University of New England up in Armidale. They offer structured Chinese courses from beginners through to advanced, all available in distance / online mode.
