Android beta

Fylke   April 4th, 2014 12:49a.m.

I heard in the Hacking Chinese Character Challenge thread about an Android Beta. Is there such a thing, and if so, can I try it?

Because I'm going on vacation over the weekend and it would be great to be able to practise then too, instead of having to stay up all night to meet the Tuesday deadline!

Found it. It's at html5.skritter.com and it works pretty well, certainly for my purposes at least. It's certainly nicer to use your fingers instead of the mouse!

i think it would be cool to see an alpha version of an app released for android or even the amazon App Store.

Well David, the HTML5 version of Skritter is not an app, so it won't show up in any appstore. Rather it relies on all the cool stuff you can do with HTML5. So basically you just use the browser on your phone/tablet and go to html5.skritter.com and the broweser will use HTML5 instead of flash to run the handwriting part.

You do have to remember to use the "save as offline" option if you intend to use it when you don't have any network.

It is beta though, so it will crash every now and then, but it's certainly usable and you can just reload the page when that happens.

I can't see any mnemonics show up in the HTML5 beta.
Does anyone know if mnemonics are supported on it?

If anyone is interested in Josh's reply to the question about mnemonics, you can find it on a separate forum post here: http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.skritter.com%2Fforum%2Ftopic%3Fid%3D1145054181%26comments%3D8&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNF_9UgOm5wbuOUqCSQcRyKYJxx-XA

I loved skritter on iOS but the last time I tried it on Android on the html 5 site it didn't work. I'd like to check it out again but I've used up all my free trials and don't want to pay for something that may not work with my hardware.

Which sucks, I miss skritter. If you guys ever release a native app maybe I'll try paying for a month to see if it works.
