How do you use starring?

Hi guys,

I was just wondering how some of you were using starring as part of your studying routine. Do you use it to focus on leeches, or to create a more active vocab list as opposed to passive?

Thanks!

I don't really have a rule for using it. I star things when I feel I'd like to isolate or find them later.

I star words that I think I can use in daily speech. Cause knowing them on Skritter and remembering them when you need to during a conversation are two totally different things.

Thank you both for your answers. Very useful

I star them when I realize I'm getting them confused with other characters. Later, I'll go through and try to find ways to differentiate those interferers.

I change my study protocol about every couple of months, but here's what I'm currently doing.

I find that I know "how to write" about 98% of the characters I'm currently studying. My problem is that I don't always know "when to write." I also sometimes forget tones or pronunciations when asked for a word writing.

In these circumstances, I star the word. I then study definitions-only from the starred words list at the end of my 20-min session, and intentionally mark everything wrong in order to get them circulated back into the queue faster. Then, I can mark the time-consuming writing prompt either correct or so-so.

I should mention that I've got definitions and writings turned on, and tones and reading turned off.

There are some words I don't seem to "get" even after several tries, so I "star" them to make a list for special, concentrated study. It is very useful, but only if I only let the list grow to 30 words before doing the study.

Thanks a lot for your input guys. It's very helpful :)
