Adding individual characters to the queue

jcardenio   December 3rd, 2009 2:40p.m.

Recently I've tried to add several characters to my queue that were part of words I had already studied but hadn't studied the character individually (I think). I got the message saying that it wasn't added because that character was already being studied. I like the new message, but I think this might be a bug. (Or I have forgotten that all the ones I've tried to add are in fact already in there idividually). One example for me is 赋.

Also, it would be nice to be able to click on a word or character anywhere on skritter and add it to the queue. Like reviewing a word I've been having trouble on - click on the trouble character in the right pane to add it to the queue. Or looking at a list like the HSK one. I like to add sentences to Anki at the same time I add the word to skritter. It's hard to control at the list level, but copying words from the list to the queue is kinda time consuming.

Thanks!

Or possibly a button (when looking at a word) to add the constituent parts.

Actually, even better - a text box on the review page to quickly add the odd character or word. That would make things easy?

hmmm regarding the bug - I think it still adds the character, it just tells you it hasn't. (赋 just came up for me to review individually)

You can currently add characters from multi-character words in the practice page, the new one anyway. Click on the magnifying glass for the word and it will list all the characters in the word. Press the green button next to ones you haven't added yet to add them.

I'll see if I can fix that bug, adding it to my list. Yeah, it should add it no matter what, so ignore the message for now.

I may be missing something obvious, but I tried to find the green button you are talking about and I couldn't find it? I clicked on the magnifying glass for the word and got:

名胜 [-勝]

míngshèng: a place famous for its scenery or historical relics

Added from China's Most Famous Tourist Destinations: Supplementary
look up

*
名 ming2: name; reputation; famous; (mw for people)
*
胜 [勝] sheng4: victorious; success; to win; to beat

I'm pretty sure I haven't added 胜 individually yet, but I couldn't find a green button anywhere... Is this where you are talking about?

I can't see it either?

Huh, looks like it's one of those things Nick and I hadn't quite implemented yet... Well we're implementing it now. It'll be uploaded very soon along with some other things...

Okay, just uploaded. Now you'll see the green buttons!
