Catching up on definitions

Christian   January 2nd, 2010 11:04p.m.

I love the new definition practice feature. However, of course I'd also like to learn the definitions for the characters already in my learning queue.

Is there anything I can do to make Skritter add those definitions, or do I have to reset my account and start from scratch to learn them?

good question, i have been thinking the same thing?

I am under the impression that they have yet to integrate words studied before the addition of definition practice into the system.

skdbhunt   January 3rd, 2010 1:19a.m.

For the words in my study list which were from textbooks, all I had to do was to turn on definition practice and re-add those textbook chapters to my vocab lists. It does not take you through the character writing and pinyin again for those words but just does the definitions.

I asked the same question and the answer that worked best for me was to export your complete vocabulary in to a custom list (no need to publish btw), and select this custom list to add stuff from.

This way I did not have to work out where the characters in my vocabulary came from after all the cherry picking I've done next to the NPCR list I have to do for class.

Yup, skdbhunt and mw describe the two main ways to do it. We're not going to retroactively go through and activate definitions for old words, so you can pick which ones you want the added definitions for.

You can also just put those exported words into your queue, rather than making a separate list for it. But then it won't be marked as part of the list you may have added the other parts from. If you want to make sure the items you add are associated with the lists you're studying, would probably be best to go find those lists and start adding them from the beginning again.

Thanks all for the ideas. Will try re-adding the textbooks first and see how it works.
