I really appreciate having the app and I only use either iPod or iPad now. (The Professor has just come up and told me "We're working on an iPhone and iPad app", which seems a bit out of date...
There are a lot of noises when it's set with the sound on. There is a sound every time I finish a word, I think. Then every 5 minutes there is an odd Chinese male voice saying something. I didn't notice it at first. It is usually blocked out by the other sounds. I get a visual notice that I've done 5 minutes, but the voice doesn't seem to say that. In fact, at 15 minutes it seemed to say feichang hao, which is odd, because it doesn't know how well I've been remembering things.

Might it be possible to switch this voice off? It's just irritating because it clashes with other sounds. Or could it just say "five" or "ten" or whatever? But I see that in writing anyway.

Go to settings in the app and choose "study" and disable "sound effects" and they are gone.

Thanks, I didn't realize that left the sound. Of course, it removes the other sound effects too, which are OK.
I suppose I could try studying for only 4 minutes at a time!

I'd like to avoid adding a separate preference for them, as long as they aren't minded that much, since some like them. Note that there are three sets, one if you're eccentric and one if you're not, and another if you're studying Japanese.

No, it's not worth Nick spending his time on this. How irritating it is is a personal matter, isn't it? I have turned off the sound effects for now.

I think 非常好 is non-eccentric, because it's in the ones I hear. For what it's worth I like the encouragement I get from this guy; I see it as an extrea incentive to keep going.
