Raw squigs

mratranslate   January 9th, 2013 4:56p.m.

Hi all,
I wondered, especially from the more advanced users, do you all use raw squigs? And if so, at what point did you shift to them in your learning?
Thanks
小麦

i am not an advanced user. i started skrittering ~3 months ago. the first 2 months I solely used the standard input method. then i switched to raw squigs for 2-3 days and I liked it. now I am alternating between normal input and raw squigs, usually 7 days normal / 2 days raw, depending on my mood.

normal use is faster and i like to have a clear view on the correctly propositioned kanji without any distracting dotted lines. still, trying to get as close to the perfectly shaped version as possible by redoing a kanji a few times with raw squigs helps alot with memorizing the proportions.

today i used raw squigs, tomorrow? who knows ;)

proportioned, not propositioned ^^

I never permanently made the switch. I try to go through my Skritter prompts as quickly as possible as I feel it's not a replacement for good handwriting using a pen and paper. It does it's job well enough of storing the stroke order in my brain and allowing my to recognize it in the future.

I started off using raw squigs and I have found that it works quite well. I just had a quick go then with raw squigs off and it felt like it was giving me too many hints of what the character was before I had completed.

I spent about 6 months using normal input, during which time I tried raw squigs a few times, but just found it way too difficult. A few weeks ago I moved to raw squigs because I felt I was getting too many hints before, now I am much happier with how well I know the characters, whether I could have used raw squigs from day one I don't know, but raw squigs definitely pushes me that little bit harder.

I started right away with raw squigs. I use it because I want to get my characters proportionally correct. I've found that drawing well on the iPad transfers over to improved handwriting.

i went back to non-raw writing after using raw squigs exclusively for a week, but soon changed it back to raw squigs. different from what i said before: i guess i moved on to raw squigs now.
