Question about current poll Tablet/Skritter bundle

balsa   July 17th, 2009 5:43p.m.

That's a great idea, but I was wondering:

1) Maybe should be trivial, but to make sure. You're talking about a tablet as in just the writing pad and not a smart pad or tablet pc, right? I've always heard the word "tablet" as in "tablet pc" so...
I've been looking at getting a writing pad, and saw one thread about it in the forum. All I wanna say, is that I think it'd be a great idea, while the mouse does the job for now, it's just not meant for it, especially when I'm practicing for more than an hour... my poor mouse :(

2) For current subscribers, would it be feasible for them to get a discount on the tablet only?
I'm asking because I'm about to subscribe :) and I'm pretty sure I'd want to get a tablet. Else, it'd be nice to publish a list of recommended writing pads , and I can look for a good deal on my own.

i think if you're serious about handwriting, you have to use a pad...I use a small Wacom Bamboo.

I have been using the site for about one month, average>1/day, and it is simply amazing how my handwriting has improved...it is dramatic.

The Wacom (which is a brand but also a generic name name) is IMO a very important and efficient tools to use with Skritter.com. It's not really for handwriting purpose (who hand write anyway? I barely used a pen for the last 6 years) but I believe it makes the learning process faster (than with a mouse or trackball like I use sometime) and makes the character easier to memorize (Memory gesture I guess)

+1 for yjbmontreal, the Wacom Bamboo is perfect for this and not very expensive.

Uy, I didn't have the space in the poll widget to specify, but I am referring here to writing tablets like the bamboo fun (which Scott has). We had briefly discussed it with Wacom several months ago, but we weren't sure if people actually wanted it, and it would take some effort on our part because Wacom doesn't have a pre-existing affiliate or cross promotion platform (like Amazon affiliates). The rep I talked to was interested, but we'd essentially have to be a pilot test for them.

So far the poll seems to indicate that people are fairly interested, so I guess I'll contact them again and try to work something out.

As an aside, I didn't know this until talking to them on the phone, but did you know "Wacom" is pronounced "walk-'em," not "Wah-com"? They have a big automated phone service that guides you to the right person in the company based on your call's intent. It was only during that call that I'd ever heard the name pronounced by anyone in the know. I almost revealed my mis-pronounciation when I finally talked to someone, but I saved myself at the last minute. :)

Great, thanks guys. I guess I'll be getting one of those Wacom soon as it indeeds look like *the* tool to skritter with! I just hope my mouse can survive until then :s

Nice to know how to pronounce it right, I thought it was "Wah-com" too, hehe.

I have *terrible* handwriting in English and have struggled with it my entire life. I use a Wacom tablet with Skritter, and my written Chinese is getting pretty nice-looking.

I always read it as "Way-com" myself ... oh well :) While my handwriting is indeed atrocious, my varying location as to computer I practice Skritter on kinda prevents me from doing the tablet thing. Honestly, using the mouse hasn't given me any trouble. But my classmate speaks very favorably about the Wacom Bamboo.

I've already bought a Wacom Bamboo Fun, so I'm not so interesting in the tablet/Skritter bundle.
I have only one question. The offer is only for US or the tablet could be shipped also to other countries? (I live in Italy)
