Reading material for people in the 300-1500 character range?

Thanks in advance =)

1. Download 旺旺時報
2. Find a short article and copy paste it into Pleco's doc reader
3. Read and understand the article, taking several days if necessary.
4. Rinse and repeat :)

Excellent tip! Thank you

Big range!

Go to yesasia.com and buy some Chinese editions of GTO Shonan 14 Days.

Work your way through, just have fun and ignore any parts that seem too tough!

John DeFrancis reader series is in traditional and offers a lot of text. The beginner books are from the 0-400 character level and is divided into two volumes for a total of 1012 pages. The intermediate books are for 400-800 characters in 1427 pages. The advanced book is for 800-1200 characters and is 713 pages long.

There are also some supplementary readers on the intermediate level. I don't own them but they seem a bit pricey for their length (~30-40 pages) (see http://www.yale.edu/fep/catalog/supp.html ).

The audio recordings have also recently been released for free and is downloadable in iTunes U (or see http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/41919-audio-for-john-defrancis-series-to-be-released-for-free-under-cc/#entry316008 for how to download them if you don't use iTunes).

See http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/31477-why-dont-more-people-use-john-defrancis-chinese-reader-series/ for discussions about the series.

There is also a recent thread from chinese-forum.com that lists a lot of different readers and also lists if they are in traditional. (see http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/44336-graded-readers-by-the-numbers-characterswords-page-count/ )

I have some of John DeFrancis' materials. Easy to read, nice font. Note: his material is a bit dated with some terms not used in China or Taiwan anymore. Try Amazon or B&N for used materials.
