Progress calculations

Mandarinboy   July 3rd, 2012 10:00p.m.

It seems that my progress when using multiple devices gets increasingly calculated wrongly. I just did the usual recalculation and that resulted in up to 13,4% decreased learned items! Normally when i recalculate the numbers are off with maybe 1% and that is OK but 13% is way to much. Numbers should not be important but I use them to set and follow up goals. I like to average only 3 characters / day and thought i did that but it seems I where wrong. Wouldn't it be better if Skritter it self actually did check this e.g. once a week instead? When the weekly progress mail is send out it would be nice if a recalculation did take place first to ensure accuracy in those numbers.

I've forgotten how to do the recalculation thing. Can you remind me? I'm curious about my numbers now.

Sure, go to the "progress" page and click the "Totals" link. There you have a "Recalculate" button.

Hmm, that's what I thought, but I definitely don't see a recalculate button there. Strange.

you need to go to the beta site. http://beta.skritter.com

Mandarinboy   July 4th, 2012 3:29a.m.

Ah, it is not there in the stable site, I use the beta site and there it is. Sorry, did not know that.

junglegirl   July 4th, 2012 3:42a.m.

Thanks, got it now. My numbers were pretty accurate; the biggest difference was in word definitions and it was still just 1%.

I'm currently doing a bunch of refactoring of the code on the beta site, and one of the things we aim to fix is this ongoing issue with progress data being recorded incorrectly. There's also a fix on the iOS side that's coming out in the next release.

After only 4 days i recalculated again and now I have up to 5,4 % difference but this time to the plus side:-) I am not sure but this might have something to do with me often using multiple devices and the site during the day and some words will then pop up as new on all of them. I usually start my day with an Ipad, switch to an Itouch or iphone during commuting and walking, the site during work day, back to touch on way home and running and finally end it up with the ipad in bed. I will try to stay on only one device for a few days and see if this have anything to do with it.
