I’m using raw squigs. From time to time, when I write a character with 口 in it, Skritter thinks I wrote that part in two strokes; then I get confused why the final _ doesn’t get recognized. I always write 口 with three strokes. Can I disable the two-stroke 口 recognition?

I made this less likely to fire in 2.0, but it's about the best I can do. I don't think we'll add an option to disable it, although I know that part can be frustrating.

Have you tried the two-stroke version? I used to be a three-stroke purist, but then I was converted after I realized how much faster it was.

It’s the way I’ve been writing since elementary school, so I don’t think I’m gonna change now. In everyday handwriting though, I use two strokes only, but the second stroke looks more like a ‘2’ or ‘Z’ rather than like a ‘]’, like here:

This is the way most Japanese people abbreviate 口; drawing the last stroke from right to left is super counter-intuitive to us. And my guess is that this is true for Chinese people, too.

So if you want to make Skritter recognize a shortened version, I suggest you switch from ]-shaped to Z-shaped. What do you think?

ximeng   January 11th, 2013 11:12a.m.

I thought Skritter already accepted a z-shaped second stroke, that's how I write it anyway.

Really? I haven’t tried. Sorry!

Schnabelhund   January 11th, 2013 11:17a.m.

I just tested and yes, it works perfectly. Nevermind, then!

ximeng   January 11th, 2013 11:18a.m.

Just tested it on the iphone and it accepts both z and ] for the second stroke. I agree ] seems rather strange.

Thanks, ximeng. This totally changes my skrittering forever :)
I wonder why I’ve never tried this before.

Glad to help, enjoy the skrittering!
