Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

legacy.skritter.cn

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

Doesn't seem to work from China

I'm located in China, which has apparently blocked your site. I'm accessing it through a Firefox proxy plugin. Every time I attempt to choose a vocabulary list, it says it is saved, but then it never actually saves it and asks me to choose vocabulary list. That's as far as I'm able to get. This is too bad, since I would imagine you'd get a lot of customers in China.

Yes, skritter.com is blocked in China. However, skrit.appspot.com should be accessible. So, try that link:

http://skrit.appspot.com/

You won't be able to log in with Clickpass, but you can do it using a password, and when it 404's after you log in, just return to skrit.appspot.com and you should be logged in.

This is a grody hack for now; we're working on better ways to get around the problem.

I'm not sure about the vocabulary list thing; perhaps Scott can weigh in on that?

why on earth is it blocked in china?? is there something only special users have access to that I can't see? :)

i would guess that it has to do with how the great firewall works?

It seems to be working now, at least from Beijing

nick   January 14th, 2009 12:55p.m.

Thanks for the data point, Kevin; since we set up the reverse proxy, we're definitely hoping that everything's good now.

If anyone else has any data points to report, we'd be glad to hear them.

I have no problems with connection resets or whatever here in Guangxi province. However today i couldn't access the site because "this google app is over capacity" or something similar. Took about half an hour before i could get in.

Me too. It was down for a while for me yesterday, too.

serickso   January 29th, 2009 1:29p.m.

That should be fixed soon. Here's the full story.

Its working in Tianjin, my suggestion is to download the vadilla bundle for firefox before going to China, or having a friend e-mail/mega upload the thing for you if your already in China.
