Skritter iOS - 180 Degrees Feature

ricksh   January 12th, 2014 11:57p.m.

Can Skritter iOS ipod/iphone app have a mode that enables 180 degree rotation (not horizontal, but upside down, so hopefully little work)? It is not easy to skritter with the power cable in (from portable battery).

This and reintroducing the battery/clock status line that disappeared on ios 7 update would really help (I think there was a previous thread where someone asked for this, and think was said is coming back, but can't find that now).

Thanks!

What if you turn the phone upside down?

ricksh   January 14th, 2014 10:45a.m.

I'm not good at reading and writing upside down so unless app rotates the 180 with me not easy!! Am on ipod, does iphone auto-rotate 180, is that what you mean?

Ah yes, I meant auto-rotate 180 degrees. iPad can do that, but just discovered that iPhone can't (I guess they don't want people using the phone upside down, and flipping the orientation of the speaker/microphone). Not sure about the behaviour on the iPod touch.

after many months I finally upgraded to iOS 7, it's as bad as expected, but I was mostly surprised to see that the time and connection status disappeared from the Skritter app. So disappointed about that. :(

Yes, we don't allow rotation for iPhone / iPod (except for the background texture on the home screen–feature?). We saw support for that as a tiny use case, and most iPhone apps do not rotate.

Status bar for 4" iPhone / iPod is on my list to put it back, but I didn't get it into the last version because we need to make a couple new taller top bar textures to fit with iOS 7.

If is a simple "Allow Rotate: Yes/No" please do consider at some point, seems devices are all going for the slimline look these days, so external batteries are becoming increasingly needed, and so the 180 rotate may be useful to quite a few ... assuming I'm not the only one skrittering with a cable in!!

I do have a question for others though, circa 45mins of skritter time on ipod 5th gen can take the battery from fullish to red, are you getting more out of an iphone or other device? What device are heavy users using (e.g. is "learninglife" still around - what device are you doing 2 hours each morning on!)

ricksh, are you using WiFi while the battery is draining so quickly? I wonder if going to airplane mode would make a difference there. If so, I could try adjusting how often it tries to sync by default on iPods. I haven't done a stress test recently, but extrapolating from today's study, I should have 4.5 hours on a 5S with WiFi on.

Thanks - I'll try with wifi etc. off sometime after CNY - thinking about it further my 45 mins skritter time includes listening to podcasts at same time and bouncing through to pleco sometimes too so actual time is more. I checked 5S battery is circa 1500mah but ipod only 1000mah so the device is not helping.
