Miscellaneous list not adding words

OCaptain   January 29th, 2012 10:56a.m.

Hello All,

I am currently using 5 lists:three from basic textbooks I've used, one I'm making based on a textbook I'm using, and a miscellaneous list. My miscellaneous list just has some characters I quick add when I think I need to know a component of another character, or think of a character I need to study. However, when I study all lists, it never adds words from the miscellaneous list. Any ideas why? Settings seem the same as all the other lists...

I could be wrong, but I believe this is happening to me also.

There have been a few words I've "magnified" and looked at an individual kanji...then added 3 or so words with that kanji in it.

I've only done this a few times, but I don't specifically recall those words coming up after I added them to my queue.

Well, one thing that I've realized is that a lot of times, even right now, I have lists that I have studied all the way, but the content from those lists is still "adding", and in a slow manner, even though there are lots of other stuff that could be adding. So, not a big deal, but something that could be improved on

Devo317, that is exactly my situation.
Bohan, aren't the lists supposed to rotate, like, every time a new word is added it's from a different list?

Zyphen   January 29th, 2012 9:59p.m.

Have you checked to see if the word is actually in your miscellaneous list?

I've tried to add words to my list in several different ways recently but never had any of them actually get added to the list. The magnifying glass, the quick add, and the quick add shortcut (Shift + A was it?). The only way I can get them added to the list is if I add them the normal way. I was thinking it was a user error thing. Maybe I was overlooking something or they were getting added to a different list somewhere or something. I still haven't found them. I wonder if this is the same problem that you guys are having?

Bohan   January 30th, 2012 2:00a.m.

One question that I have, that's related to this is: for one of my recent lists, which I've studied through completely and have green boxes in all the parts, it says "5 left" at the top-left of the list contents. What does that mean ? 5 of what left ?

OCaptain   January 30th, 2012 8:49a.m.

Zyphen, yeah, the characters have been added to that list. Right now I'm just studying that list individually and that is working, not ideal though, it would be nice to integrate it into my regular study...

@Devo317: I checked your account and found the bug. The auto list system wasn't handling when you hadn't made any changes to the misc list settings since it was built. It's been fixed and I've put the fix live, so that next time someone adds a word to the misc list, it will start getting added properly if it wasn't before. Or that can be jump started by opening up the list settings and pressing the save button.

@OCaptain: I'm guessing you were experiencing the same bug, but it looks like studying the list by itself has fixed the problem for you. It should now add normally when you study all your lists together. If it still doesn't, let me know.

@Zyphen: I'm not sure what's causing this issue. I went onto your account and added a random word in a word popup by pressing one of the quick add buttons, and it added fine to your misc list. Using the quick add shortcut also worked. You're looking here, right?

Could you describe in more detail the steps that you're taking? Then we can figure out what's going on.

@Bohan: Which list are you describing? You have many many lists enabled :)

Just tried it again and it worked fine.

This time it gave me some popups saying that it was adding it to miscellaneous. Last time I didn't get that. I also see that it made a new section in my Misc list called "February 2012". That didn't happen last time either.

I don't know why it wasn't working that day. Maybe a fluke. I should have tried it again another day as well. Sorry for wasting your time :(

Thanks Scott, seeing new words from my miscellaneous list now!
