Firefox 4, pera-pera kun and nciku toolbar

Élie   March 26th, 2011 3:15p.m.

Hi there,

I just installed Firefox 4 on my Mac, it's quite nice but neither pera-pera kun or the nciku toolbar seem to work. Is it only me, or is it normal, does someone have a suggestion?

I used to use Firefox 3, and I remember pera-pera kun not working quite as it was supposed to.

If you don't mind changing browser already, my suggestion would be to use Chrome and the Zhongwen plugin, which has built-in Skritter support.

Well that's an option, but I always liked Firefox and rather support a non-for-profit than Google... So an option to keep FF 4 would be nice.

As for Firefox 3, pera-pera kun 2.0 worked ok for me, albeit with some problems with the wordlist.

I tried to switch to FF4 too, but found it impossible to use skritter with my bamboo. The stroke recognition was just awful and unusable.

I've switched back to FF3 now.

Actually I was gonna mention that the Wacom plugin wasn't recognized either, it's a good point. But I think Wacom will develop a new plugin for it sooner or later, just need to keep an eye open for when it does.

Mh, well... I'll wait to see if other Skritterers have anything to say about that and swap back to FF3 tomorrow T_T

Silly people that supports a "non-profit", do not realize that this word only means that they do not report any utilities at the end of the year, it does not mean that the executives, owners and workers dont earn a lot of money.
Any way, one should ask oneself, it this is a real non-profit, how do they pay their expenditures?
I prefer to support real working people like Skritter team, that was the way America was build, not by non profiters clowns.

Hi -- new here! @inkubus: I updated to FF4 and just bought a Bamboo pen & touch; it seems to work alright. I set it up per the guidance given via the link somewhere on the home page.

Maybe Wacom updated the plugin already? For now I've just decided to wait a couple weeks or so until FF4 isn't brand-new anymore and has some more support.

There is a workaround for the Firefox 4 incompatibility issue with pera-pera kun, though it's a little involved:

Just remember, Justin Kovalchuk lives in Japan. He says in the plugin blog that his development schedule for the update has been affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

Thanks for the helpful comments.

I'll recheck Wacom, for me the tablet works under FF4, just less sensitive than it used to be.

As for the workaround for pera-pera kun, I'll try it out, but after a (very) quick look on the internet I could only grab a command line winrar version compatible on Mac, and it looks like a little bit of a headache to run.

If I have time I'll do it properly and post here the m.o.
