cramming the Queue

murrayjames   August 18th, 2009 4:19p.m.

Can we make it possible to cram the Queue?

You mean take items that have been added to the queue and make a cram list out of them? It's possible to just copy the table into a cram list manually; would you be doing this regularly? In what context would you be doing this?

My reason for asking is: I work from my Queue as much--or more--as I work from my Active Lists. And I add to the Queue pretty regularly (i.e., whenever I see a word or a character I don't know). There's 300+ items in my queue right now.

Cramming a section of the HSK is easy: I just push a button and it's done. To cram the Queue, I have to click through page by page, highlighting the items I want and then pasting them manually. With 10 items a page, and 30 pages, this takes some time.

I use cramming mainly to force new items into my review cycle--words I want to study now and not wait for. With my Active Lists this is easy; with the Queue, not so easy.

As an alternative, what about prioritizing the items on your queue, like a "Move Up" or a "Move Down" button?

Or--this would be a huge help--make it possible to display more than 10 items per page, like a regular list?

Sorry Murray I keep forgetting to respond to this forum thread. I've been studying Japanese several hours a day all week and it's addled my mind!

I suspect the queue is going to undergo some design overhauling like much of the rest of the site pretty soon. That seems like a good thing to be able to do and shouldn't be too hard to fit into the interface.

But the main reason for doing this is you want to speed up adding words. If we were to add a button to force adding from the queue in the practice page, would this be an even better direct way to do what you want? I guess this would preferably go along with the ability to prioritize your queue as you suggested. Or even more direct, how about the ability to force add words that you select in the queue? Or do you prefer being introduced to the words in cram mode?

I'll make it show more items per page too when the queue gets redone.

Thanks for the input!

You're right, it's not about cramming. Your suggestion is really what I'm after--the ability to force add words that you select in the Queue. Basically, if I have 300+ items in a list, and I want to study the last 5 item, is there a convenient way to do this?

Hey man good luck with the Japanese :-)
