iPhone and/or iPad version

雅各   July 7th, 2011 11:45a.m.

The skritter blog posted a teaser about an iPhone app over 6 months ago now. Is there any news on this?

Can't wait to get back to skrittering again once the iPhone version becomes available. (:

nick   July 7th, 2011 12:02p.m.

I am working on it. No other news yet, sorry!

When there's something new that I can visibly demonstrate, I'll post another teaser.

雅各   July 7th, 2011 8:36p.m.

Cool. I'll keep checking in.

menglelan   July 9th, 2011 11:54a.m.

I want an iPhone skritter app. Now.

Elwin   July 9th, 2011 12:28p.m.

@menglelan

apparently it won't come falling from the sky, I think it's clear it will take a little bit longer than 'now'.

I think this comes up at least once every two weeks.

(: Cant be because of me, I only sign in to check every 4-6 months (:

I am guessing the iPhone app will be ready at about the same time my skritter account runs out (:

Thomas   July 10th, 2011 1:29a.m.

Its looking like the iPhone app will come out about the same time my iPhone decomposes.

nick   July 10th, 2011 3:02p.m.

Thomas, if you would just feed your phone to some electronics-eating bacteria and decompose it faster, I could get the app out quicker.

雅各   July 11th, 2011 5:13a.m.

Does it have to be an iPhone, can we decompose something else?

jcardenio   July 11th, 2011 5:30a.m.

I vote Thomas should sacrifice his phone for the greater good.

Someone has to have some hungry rouge nanobots that would be delighted to help the electronics-eating bacteria, trace metals and all that being so rare...

We can have that app within a week!

Redboxnic   July 12th, 2011 11:31a.m.

Nick, jia you! Crossing fingers the app comes soon. I can't wait to do it on my iPad and iPod.

nick   July 13th, 2011 8:06p.m.

I've been making mad progress on the iOS app over the past few days. Still a long way to go.

matti   July 17th, 2011 3:14p.m.

I really think you should present some kind of time schedule because there is at least one app already for the iPhone/iPad which does almost the same thing as skritter...

nick   July 17th, 2011 9:51p.m.

We'll set a release date when we get a little closer. Development pace is still highly variable, so I'm not confident making an estimate yet.

michau   July 19th, 2011 12:59a.m.

Matti, what is the app you're talking about? Since Skritter is not yet available on iPhone and apparently is not going to be available too soon, it would be great to know what I can use right now, even if it's worse than Skritter would be.

hannes   July 19th, 2011 1:02a.m.

This is just to again also express my interest in the iOS app for skritter. For me it is just impossible to continuously be in front of a computer with internet access due to work and travel commitments. This unfortunately always breaks my study record and I have to fight with backlogs rather than making progress on extending vocab. An offline iphone/ ipad would certainly do the trick for me.

As mentioned before I would certainly be willing to pay for the app if that in any way helps to speed up the process.

P.S. Holiday season is comping up. I am looking forward to some nice hiking but am already worried about my skritter dilemma when I come back...

Help Nich, help! ;-)

nick   July 19th, 2011 10:02p.m.

I'm on it!

雅各   July 19th, 2011 10:51p.m.

Seconded, I have already gone and paid for Anki on my iPhone for this exact reason. I would happily pay extra for a Skritter iPhone version to replace anki, assuming it handled sentence writing input in a reasonably sensible way.

Kai Carver   July 20th, 2011 4:57a.m.

I don't have an iPhone but I would be interested in an HTML5 version... :-p It seems a shame to put so much effort in a version that works on just one platform. I hope some of the development can be re-used for other platforms. A pure web version some day would be sweet, but I know HTML5 technologies may not be mature enough. Or maybe I should learn to stop worrying and love the iPhone.

雅各   July 20th, 2011 5:03a.m.

just get an iphone :P (:

雅各   July 23rd, 2011 10:59a.m.

I was trying out one of the "pens" for the iphone/ipad tonight. It is so cool, I can write so much faster on my iPhone with the pen. It makes me want skritter on my iphone soo bad (:

I have contemplated buying a cheap android just to skritter, however I am not sure I want to carry two devices around in my pocket all the time.

ciaocibai   July 27th, 2011 7:02p.m.

I'd love to be able to test the app if you're looking for anyone to help. I've got a jailbroken iPhone 4, and a non-jailbroken iPad 2 (running iOS 5 as we also develop apps)...

Keep up the good work guys.

nick   July 27th, 2011 7:58p.m.

ciaocibai, let me know your email address (you can send it on the contact page) and I'll add you to the list, and let you know when it's ready for testing. Thanks!

WanLi   July 29th, 2011 3:51p.m.

count me in as a tester too

Matti   July 29th, 2011 4:08p.m.

Michau, it feels awkward to make announcements for a competitor to Skritter on Skritters own forum, so I can just advice you to search in the App Store. The app I found is not exactly like Skritter but does a good job in a game situation to ask you to input Chinese characters as fast as possible giving you higher points if youre fast. The same company also makes some other pinyin training apps. It complements Skritter very good, so even if you use Skritter you definitely use these apps to.

nick   July 29th, 2011 6:40p.m.

walid, I've added you to my list.

I've been writing a ton of code for the iOS app lately. Exciting! It's all on the backend, so I don't have another teaser to show just yet.

Scuzzo   August 2nd, 2011 4:00a.m.

Thanks for the constant communication Nick. Looking forward to testing it out when it's available.

michau   August 2nd, 2011 4:53p.m.

Matti, thanks for info.

Nick, can you add me to your list?

nick   August 3rd, 2011 10:58a.m.

Sure thing, michau.

雅各   August 14th, 2011 10:24p.m.

If I can keep up the current rate of study, with any luck I will have learnt chinese before the iPhone/iPad version comes out :P~
