Cool idea about publishing it here so there is achance to ammend it before it becomes a permanent non editable list! (:

alxx   July 23rd, 2011 11:42p.m.

Did it before with a list of electronics terms.
http://www.skritter.com/forum/topic?id=90746108

Plus with my bad chinese I need someone to double/triple check it
and to make sure I don't miss things or make to many rude/embarrassing mistakes.

What is the correct terms for soy milk and the different types ?
I should add those as well.

Is this correct ?
豆浆 dòujiāng soy milk

nick   July 24th, 2011 6:32p.m.

Scott is almost done with the editable-published-lists feature, so I wouldn't worry about getting it perfect right now. Great list!

Kai Carver   July 24th, 2011 7:13p.m.

aixx yes 豆浆 dòujiāng is correct for soy milk.

by the way, if you don't already, you may want to use a Chinese popup dictionary in your browser. I just hover over Chinese terms and get a popup definition if the term exists in the dictionary, very useful! I can also press "c" and the definition is copied, "s" and it is added to my Skritter queue, or "Ctrl-5" and the term is looked up under MDBG.

On Chrome you can use the Zhongwen extension:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/kkmlkkjojmombglmlpbpapmhcaljjkde
Firefox has the Perapera-kun add-on:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/perapera-kun-chinese-popup-tra/
Not sure what's available under IE or Safari.

Great list. I drink a lot of Chinese teas, but I know them mostly by their pinyin and English names. You can also look on babelcarp for additional chinese tea terms: http://www.panix.com/~perin/babelcarp.cgi

alxx   July 25th, 2011 7:43a.m.

I've got Zhongwen on chrome but its not to good on the developer versions(slow)

Have perapera-kun.
prefer MDBG on mac(the addon for purchase that plugs into the mac dictionary app)

Problem with dictionaries is you don't know which word (of the few offered ) is the common usage.

I drink a lot of green tea, plenty of oolong and a lot of puerh
(and a lot of coffee - work in a uni lab on embedded systems)

GrandPoohBlah   July 25th, 2011 12:35p.m.

I don't see fenghuang dancong (鳳凰 單叢) or wuyi yancha (武夷 岩茶).

And of course yixing (宜興) and chaozhou (潮州) should be on there too. There's a whole lot of other pottery names and terms that I don't know that should be on a tea vocab list as well...

Antimacassar   September 10th, 2011 1:29a.m.

格雷伯爵茶 Earl Grey
珠茶 Gunpowder Tea
大吉岭红茶 Darjeeling tea
