Viewing other forms of same character?

alandtse   September 16th, 2011 11:49p.m.

I can't seem to find it using the Android study tool, but is there a way to cycle between the different forms for a Character after you've finished writing it? For instance if I write something in simplified, is there a way to have it then show me the traditional version if I click somewhere? Also vice versa if it I just wrote the simplified?

And probably on a further wish list, can I also cycle to the Japanese variant if one exists? I may be in the minority but I'm studying all three and would like a quick way to swap between character variants.

Thanks,
Alan

There's no way to immediately study the other form, but you can click the magnifying glass to get the word popup, and that will show you the alternate form. Is that what you're looking for?

We are planning to include the other form in the prompt itself, so you don't have to click through to see it, but that's waiting on a redesign of the prompt area, since we don't have a way to fit it in right now.

We made the simplifying decision to keep Chinese and Japanese totally separate, so I think you're only going to be able to see one language at a time. Sorry!

The magnifying glass is similar functionaity to what I was looking for. I noticed that there's a bug where regardless of whether you clicked from a simplified or traditional character the English under the character always says "SIMP" even if its a traditional character.

I was actually hoping to be able to see the other form of the character in a bigger size such as in the flash drawing area. If that's sorta what you guys are planning, I can't wait for it to be done. :)

Too bad about the complete language separation. Thanks for the quick reply!

I don't think we'll be able to make the alternate form much bigger. Switching the characters in the Flash area like that would be very tricky.

We'll work on that bug where it always says SIMP. Good catch!
