Flash player

Kewt   November 19th, 2011 4:48p.m.

Hi everybody
I've got a problem with Flash player ; it has been working great for months, but today I got an odd message and I can't use the writing window of skritter anymore : it says my OS doesn't support Flash Player, although I haven't changed anything about it. Have you guys on the Skritter server changed something ?

Kewt   November 19th, 2011 5:34p.m.

I precise it's the same with Safari and Firefox, I have tried to reinstall Flash Player but it didn't fix it. And no problem for the moment on other sites using Flash… Version of Flash is 10.1.102.64, the latest available for my OS X 10.4. Any explanation ?

scott   November 19th, 2011 5:35p.m.

We recently set it to require Flash 10.2 or higher, so we can use newer features. Major operating systems should be able to upgrade though. What's your OS, and what's your current version of Flash?

scott   November 19th, 2011 5:44p.m.

Hmm, will check with Nick to see if we can still support older versions of Flash then. In the meantime, you can continue to use the October release of Skritter here:

Yeah, we can't stay on old versions of Flash Player forever, unfortunately. Is there a reason you're on Mac OS X 10.4, rather than upgrading to a newer version?

Kewt   November 20th, 2011 3:16a.m.

yes, the reason is my hardware is Power PC G4 (if you know a little about Apple) and I can't upgrade. One day I will buy a new computer but not now. For the moment, the October release is a good solution for me ; will it be possible to use it for a long time ?

EdwardJames   November 20th, 2011 1:19p.m.

Hi guys. I'm also stuck on Mac 10.4 until I buy a new machine. I know legacy is a pain for developers, but would be great if the October release is kept available for those of us clinging on to older kit.

We aren't planning on officially supporting it, so some things may eventually break, but as we're mostly working on the iOS app now I doubt that you'll run into problems soon. We'll not turn it off for now, anyway. If something breaks, I'll cook up some other workaround for you.

I have OS X 10.5 and I was getting the same error as Kewt when using Firefox. But with Chrome the Flash still works fine.

Chrome updates things like flash automatically, whereas firefox doesn't, so could be worth checking.

Hi, have you recently changed anything related to this? I've got a flash version error message that I've never had on this computer before. It says it requires flash player 11.1.

nick   December 15th, 2011 3:12p.m.

I did--adding an option to use a 10.1-compatible SWF--but it shouldn't be doing anything by default, and should be requiring Flash Player 10.2+. What Flash Player version do you have, and is this the live or beta site?

Hi, thanks for the help, but I'm afraid I can't be very useful as that was on a library computer, hence why I couldn't update flash player, but also why I can't tell you anything else about the problem! Sorry. Thanks though :)

Is this a miracle or something normal ? the latest Skritter now works properly on my Mac with no trouble at all with Flash… You guys are doing a great job !

Thx a lot

nick   February 1st, 2012 6:07p.m.

It's your normal type of miracle: I did a bunch of work behind the scenes and now it automatically detects which version of the Flash file to serve you. Glad to hear it's working!
