review old word amendments

thedrunkingpig   January 4th, 2012 8:35p.m.

im reviewing my old words and there is some words that i cant remember clearly.

my stats say that i have nearly remembered the word and its not due for review for another 2 weeks.

is there anyway to change this status so it can be treated like a new word? so it will be reviewed more often?

will be nice to find a solution to this.

thx in advance!

There is no straightforward way to do this. Ideally, you let Skritter bring up the word when it will, and when it does, that's when you tell it that you don't know it, and you do that for every word. That way you don't have to go through your studies and find words you don't know yourself, and instead focus on those that are due and adding yet more words. Making sure you're 100% on any given word or group of words is inefficient learning.

However, if you want to make sure you know a given section or list really well, you might study that on its own (and maybe turn off adding for the list if you're studying the whole list) and then study things that aren't due yet. If you study the section the word is in, it should come up soon so that you get the chance to tell Skritter it's not due yet.

how about this though: When im skrittering, if there is a word that i think is too easy/dont know/so so/got it i can click the tick and it will change the frequency of study (if that makes sense)

how about one of these ticks/toggle buttons next to learnt words in the my word list, that way we can alter the words frequency manually.

if we set it to dont know, the word can be treated as a new word, old stats for it reset to 0.

likewise if we were to set it to "too easy" it bumps the stats up.

I think your solution is a little too complex, and some users could seriously screw up their settings accidentally.

I think the best way to deal with what you're having is to star the words you don't know very well, and then study that list separately, grading them very harshly, which should adjust the frequency pretty quickly.

atdlouis' suggestion is the best one. I had forgotten about the starred words, since I don't use them myself.

@thedrunkingpig: It's better to have those sorts of controls in the context of doing the reviews, because being prompted for the word gives you a better sense of how well you actually know the word, rather than just looking at all the info about it and judging for yourself.

Also, it's really not something you should have to do, manage your studies outside of studying, or before they're scheduled to come up. Putting some controls like that imply that it's a good thing to spend your time on. But it's not a good use of time, and Skritter aims to be as efficient and effective as possible.

As atdlouis said, best to star those few you really want to make sure you don't forget ever, and work on them separately. But even then try to do that with as few words as possible. Your best use of time is studying the words Skritter gives you when you study all your lists together. You'll get to them eventually, and in the long run it will be much, much faster.
