I have been studying from the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) lists, and went through List 4 an 3 fairly fast. Now I have been on 2 for months, and just keep getting new words with the same kanji I already know. I am stuck at around 1120 kanji. Is there a better set of lists to use to get new kanji? There are around 2000 in the basic set alone.

I would suggest that you try the Remembering the Kanji lists for books 1 and 3. That should take you to around 3000 characters.

I started RTK 1 and it certainly brought new kanji! I went through about 65; some I knew and some I didn't, but it never brought any that I didn't know back around for another try. Is this the way it is supposed to be? How do we get it to re-present ones we don't know for learning?

The ones you get wrong should come up again soon--the ones you get right on the first try take about a week.
