Headnix Finger app for iphone

thomasgatley   November 29th, 2009 5:57a.m.

I just started using Headnix's 'Finger' app for iphone - it links via wifi to your desktop to enable you to write in hanzi - and I was wondering if I could use it with Skritter?

If not, do you know any other way to use my iPhone as an input device for Skritter? I think this would really speed me up and ingrain things more deeply.

I was over in Oberlin in October btw, neat place guys.

Thanks,
Thomas

I checked out a similar app which allows you to use your iPhone touch input as a cursor. The problem with it was that you would have to do a separate action to click, to signify when you want to start writing a stroke instead of just moving the cursor.

What you would really need to have is an app that did absolute positioning on your computer, so that your iPhone screen corresponded to the writing area in Skritter. You'd also want it to register a press any time your finger was on it. Not very useful for other purposes, I imagine, so I don't think there's something like that out there now. We won't make one because we're still banking on making a full Skritter app later when Flash CS5 comes through with the native iPhone app conversion.

So yeah, you could do it with that kind of cursor app or with a VNC app, but they would be slow and not good.

A full skritter application for iphone (and other touchphones like it) would make me consider buying a phone like that, just to be able to buy the application and practice the writing anywhere i go.
