new practice page broke when I read instructions

rgwatwormhill   December 7th, 2009 12:49p.m.

Hi, I've just had a look at the new practice page. All was well to start with, but then I clicked on the small question-mark bottom-right of screen, and went into an explanation page. Still OK, but when I came back to the new practice page there was a small black blob on the drawing board which did not respond to mouse-movements. In fact, the mouse could not work on the drawing section at all: I tried to click next, but couldn't. (I came out by clicking practice tab to return to old page, which worked ok). Also, at the same time I think, my number of words scheduled to practice jumped from about 290 to 99.
Rachael.

Found the bug, fixed it. Flash apparently feels fit to reload when it or things around it are moved around a bit. I'll upload the fix soon and then the help feature won't break the practice page anymore.

Besides it messing up the practice page, did you find the help feature useful? It's on other pages as well.

Thanks for the bug report!

I liked the help feature but it could be a little more extensive. It is very basic now.

We didn't want to put too much time into doing the whole thing until we got an idea of whether people liked it or not. We still want some more information on whether people like it or not.

By more extensive, do you mean have it in more places on the site, or on the pages it exists, have more of the overlay boxes, or where there are overlay boxes, have more text inside them?

The plan is to have the overlay system provide details of the specific page, and then revamp the userguide into a series of higher level articles that go over topics like generally managing your vocabulary, getting the most out of practice, things like that that are on more than one page. How does that sound?
