The current poll

Is there some confusion over the current poll ("Do you need to see the list a word comes from in the prompt?")?

Just that until today or yesterday it wasn't possible to see which list a word was from at all. Now it's back in the look up menu where it used to be.

Do people think it should be part of the prompt itself? Personally I'd prefer to just rely on the definition given, without any other reminders.

Opinions?

The question is whether you want it to be visible at all times, like the readiness message is shown, or have it where it is now, which requires a click to see. I would imagine that if we were to move it to the front, it would be in a similar font and place as the readiness message.

I would prefer to have it in front, myself. If it's the same font (color and size) as the readiness message, it shouldn't be too eye-catching when you're looking at the prompt, so that hopefully you won't notice it unless you want to.

It sounds like a lot of these little user interface things could be added to the settings menu. If you are cruising through a guided vocabulary list it might be nice for reference, but still might not fit everyone's liking.

What I would do is have it enabled by default so people can choose if they like it or not rather than them not knowing the option exists. It would of course be linked up in the settings menu. It is also becoming more common to have people be able to hover over elements and delete them if they want directly from the front then tell the user it can be re-enabled in the settings.

Rather than make preferences for things as minor as this, we'd prefer to make good design decisions that work for everyone so that users don't have to think about it. Too many options can kill a man.

Given the number of people that want it, I think that placing it as Scott describes is the best call.

A lot of times I have found myself wondering what list a word came from. Often I did not want to bother to go to the magnifying glass because I was on a roll and did not want to break the speed. I don't think it acts as a reminder, maybe for definition practice, but for writing? You already have all information, namely definition and english, how does the list it came from help you?

For definition practice it might be a hint though since if you have a list with only food or only religion, well, obviously...

The reason I am so interested in the list my words come from is probably because I made my own lists and I am curious what I learning.

A lot fo people answered "it would be good" though.

If the question is is whether I want it to be visible at all times, the I did not answer properly to the poll question.

Not being to know the word list origin was the single issue I had with the new practice page. The way I use Skritter, It was actually a pretty troublesome issue for me.

Now that I can find out in one click, I just want to say that this solution is just perfect for me. Better there than on the main practice page, so there is no hint.

Thanks guys!
