hitting back button on ios app

Bohan   June 25th, 2012 5:01p.m.

I like the app a lot, but there is one thing that's inconvenient. A lot of times when I hit the back button, it thinks I'm hitting neutral tone and shows the answer for the current item instead of going back a slide.

scott   June 25th, 2012 8:01p.m.

What area of the screen are you hitting, exactly?

戴金霸   June 26th, 2012 9:26a.m.

I know it not the same problem but I don't want to start a new tread. When I go to pleco and come back to skritter, the back button does not work.

Catherine :)   June 26th, 2012 9:30a.m.

@戴金霸 that's intentional, they only allow you to go back one word but if you leave the app you can't go back at all, possibly to avoid storing too much data or causing sync problems or something like that.

Alan   June 27th, 2012 2:26a.m.

I get the feeling that 'back' is basically just for quickly going back to correct an accidental "got it" or whatever - sometimes Skritter thinks I got it when I know in my heart I didn't.

I don't think 'back' is there as some sort of permanent history...

戴金霸   June 27th, 2012 3:29a.m.

Understood thanks.

nomadwolf   June 27th, 2012 11:23p.m.

Is it possible to move the forward/back buttons to the upper half of the screen (definition area). I hit it too often by mistake. (at least as an option?)

戴金霸   June 28th, 2012 11:17a.m.

I do the same thing. Especially with the charecter that contain 心 on the lower right corner. I think more than half of the last stroke is in the back button area. It would be great if we can move it out of the way.

nick   June 29th, 2012 11:39a.m.

I can certainly try hemming the back button's hit area up a bit. I think it may work better that way. Do we need it for the forward button, too?

戴金霸   June 30th, 2012 5:26a.m.

Oh I just realized I was talking about the forward button. Sorry.

Catherine :)   June 30th, 2012 7:36a.m.

I might be the odd one out here but I find the opposite; I often accidentally tap the screen (thus revealing the next card) when I meant to tap the back button to correct the previous one. So if it was made smaller, I'd never get it!
The forward one's not been a problem though because mostly it moves on quickly automatically if I get it right.

戴金霸   June 30th, 2012 8:27a.m.

The charecters that have the 心 on the lower right corner mostly have the last 点 on the 心 as the last stroke. Because part of that 点 is in the forwards button area I often hit it instead of finish the charecter.

nick   June 30th, 2012 3:51p.m.

How do you draw your 点 strokes--as dots, as short down-right strokes, or longer?

戴金霸   July 1st, 2012 6:32a.m.

Well I would say it's a short down-right stroke, nothing longer than the stroke Skritter shows but it start position is not always exact. I guess it happen when my start position is in the forward button area.

Antimacassar   July 19th, 2012 10:12a.m.

1. This happens pretty often with me with both the back buttons and forward, especially if the word has some kind of 点 (especially 竖心旁, like in 怕)and is fairly annoying, please fix.

There seems plenty of space in the top left and right part of the box that contains the definitions, why not stick them there?

2. Speaking of the definitions box can you make the button to enlarge it either bigger or something, it's too easy for the app to think you don't know part of the character when I just want to enlarge the definition box.

3. Maybe it's been mentioned already but I think there should be an option to have the mnemonics disabled, frankly I don't find them useful 99% of the time so I don't really want to see them.

btw love the app, won't be using the computer much again, hurrah!

Byzanti   July 19th, 2012 12:23p.m.

Antimacassar, as for 2., you can hit anywhere on the definition to enlarge the definition box.

As for 3. I don't mind mnemonics, but I certainly have no wish to see other people's. Still, it's hidden most of the time, so could be worse.
