Suggestion for improvement

Hi guys,

When practicing hanzi it would come in really handy to have a few sample words to the character displayed at same time (preferably with the last cycle before going to the next hanzi).

With the current practice page there is a big white spot in the lower right corner (default settings), which basically cries out for some useful content. What do you think?

Love your product!

Happy Holidays,

Stephan

You can get sample words by using the magnifying-glass icon to bring up the dictionaries links. Yellowbridge in particular has a very nice selection.

I recall it being on their list of things to do!

I tend to prefer keeping the page as clean as possible. I also click over to yellowbridge if I want to delve further into sample words or etymology. That's easy to do now as Xerxes314 mentions.

We're planning on putting a shared mnemonics and notes widget there. The sample words are to-do and will be in the character lookup menu, similar to how the component characters are in the word lookup menu.

We've got some ideas for awesome example sentence stuff, too, but that's further off. We might try to put that directly below the practice area, to be expanded as needed.

Glad you're digging Skritter!

Thanks for the hint using yellowbridge for sample words. Something I actually was doing occasionally already. However, what I find not ideal is that this actually takes quite some time in terms of accessing their website (even with a halfway decent broadband connection in Beijing).

Having access to the words instantly on the practice side would avoid breaking up the study flow of going through characters.

To display words related to characters could be an option in the settings menue. This way people who prefer a clean less cluttered site could simple turn it off.
