I'm intrigued by Duolingo. Some people hate it, others love it. However in order for me to try it, they need to implement a Chinese version. We might not get the 400 votes needed to surpass Japanese, but surely we can get the 20 or so votes to beat Italian and be second on the list.

I tried this for Spanish but at the moment just waiting for the Chinese, which I thought was the next language they would add.

I remember being so excited when I found out what reCaptcha was all about, haha. Put in a vote for Chinese and forwarded the info about the site to a friend who was just bemoaning the cost of Rosetta Stone for Spanish last night!

I'm trying French as a review and really like the method. Chinese would be great.

I don't know how far they get in their language instruction, but they may need some sort of placement test. Maybe if you are familiar with the language you are working in you're just supposed to pick iut up from translating.

My friend just started working for Duolingo, by the way. They've got some great ideas over there.

A lot of times, tools that try to do too many language pairs don't end up doing well on very specialized languages like Chinese and Japanese. I'll be interested to see what they do with the characters.

I find you can test out of a level in Duolingo. I'm not sure if I missed it or if it was recently added to the French beta.
