How to use Skritter with Android Hoheycomb tablets

rustamk   August 15th, 2012 7:50a.m.

Please, help.

I own HTC flyer with Honeycomb 3.2. Tried to use skritter with Opera, Opera mini, Skyfire and Dolphine browsers. Always encountered the same problem: I cannot write characters with stylus and skritter responds very slowly. Any solutions?

Thanks.

Sounds like it's not autodetecting your device as an Android device. Try going to http://beta.skritter.com/study/all and, in the study settings on that page, checking the Android option to try and force it to use the Android input detection and layout. Let me know how that goes.

I checked it today. It's much more convenient to work with the new site. However it recognizes written characters slowly and it's difficult to write sloping characters.

By the way, the old site today suddenly added a lot of unexpected words (about 50) from new lessons of New practical Chinese.

Then the pronunciation of sample sentences isn't corrected yet.

Yes, the Android Flash-browser implementation does have some unavoidable performance limitations to it, so it's not as good an experience as, say, our iOS version.

Was there anything strange going on with your internet connection when those 50 words got added? And did they all then show up as new words for you to study right afterward?

I'm turning off the example sentence pronunciation on the live site for now until we can get it figured out.

is there any way that you guys could make an app for androids? not just iphones. some of us don't have the money to afford iphones, and it's not that hard to make an app for the android to.

nick   October 18th, 2012 5:48p.m.

We are not doing an Android version, instead deciding to optimize and devote maximum attention for iOS and web experiences needing complete heed.

It took us 3000 hours to make the iOS app, for comparison. Creating a good Android app is non-trivial.

A shame - on my new tablet I cannot use Skritter at all (it runs android 4.1 with no flash support at all).

As flash support has been dropped, an app would be nice. Particularly considering Android's market share long having overtaken iOS's, with the margins ever widening.

Shame to read that you don't plan on supporting Android. One signup lost (mine) because of it. Have you done a poll to see if it is worth investing the time in it? I am guessing that you have.

Please! we need this application in Android!

This is on my phone, not a tablet, but how do you actually get it to write? When I drag my stylus on the page, it moves the page, doesn't write any strokes...

I've clicked on the area to try to focus flash (and that message goes away), but no luck... the buttons on the bottom work OK...

nick   January 22nd, 2013 1:10p.m.

There's some discussion on that in this current thread: http://www.skritter.com/forum/topic?id=257731344

The idea is to try a different browser if it's still dragging the page after you tap to focus Flash.

OK, I replied on the other thread. On a forum note, if I have "email me replies" checked for a thread, and I am a beta user, can the email link to the beta site?

Otherwise the thread won't be marked as read in my browser history when I'm at the forum page.

Sure. I've made the change, but it won't happen until next month.
