Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

Does anyone here use pps.tv to watch TV from China? Anyone know of a tutorial on how to use this app on Mac OS X?

Yes, it is a wonderful program. It appears that the Chinese content at least is legal and advertising (and/or subscription) supported. The US TV shows are blocked outside of China.

Sorry I have only used it on Windows: I use a Microsoft tool called applocale to correctly set the code page without needing my whole system to be switched to Chinese (without this the hanzi show as garbage characters).

You have to create a free account on the web to watch the majority of the content. This isn't too hard with something like Google Translate. I don't know the Mac PPS interface, but if it is similar to Windows it should be simple to navigate. You could OCR the menu items in something like Pleco.

One warning: PPS on Windows installs a service which acts as a peer to peer client, serving content which you have downloaded to other users even when PPS is not running. You may want to take steps to disable this.

I concur with alanmd, it is a wonderful program. What particular part are you having trouble with? As far as I'm aware, the PPS Mac version is identical.

Made a quick guide in case it helps you.

After downloading and installing the MAC version

Set up an account here.

These two quickly drawn images will help if you have trouble navigating the program.

An alternative is PPTV. Very similar to PPS but doesn't require you to have an account and has live streaming of Chinese TV. Be wary of it installing extra programs on your PC though.

I used to watch it a lot. In fact, it was my skritter buddy for a while. Before the app came out, I used to open up PPS and fill half the screen, and have skritter on the other side. I would skritter through an entire movie, sometimes two or three!

Although Chinese tv isn't very good, so when I watched every single English speaking movie on it, I kind of stopped, although I'm sure there's some new one's on there now. Now just starting to get into Chinese tv now.

Fusion, or 风行 is also a very good movie software, and I also find it much more user friendly than PPS.

I am using TVU Player on Mac. I choose Chinese as the language and get about 8 stations.
