iPod?

CC   September 4th, 2012 5:00p.m.

At the risk of sounding dense.... If I got an iPod touch, could I use Skritter on the move? I don't want an iPhone, or an iPad, but something small and portable is appealing.

I've seen pictures of how it looks on an iPhone. Would it be simlar (the same?) on an iPod?

Apologies - the technology moves so fast! I've got an iPod Classic for music and podcasts, but these 'apps' are popping up everywhere and I'm not 100% sure why I might want to use them?

Wait a week as apple might refresh iPod touch with pending iPhone release. New iPod should be faster. Maybe bigger as well.

This has been discussed a few times recently, it seems that it works OK on a 4th gen iPod touch, although not quite as well as on an iPhone:

Apple may announce a new iPod and/or smaller iPad sometime this month too. Even if you don't want the new one, the price of used (and maybe even new) models would drop if they do announce new stuff.

I'm using the Japanese skritter app on my iPod Touch (4th generation) and I think it works really well. I can't see any downside to it. I can't see any lack of responsiveness whatsoever.

I would also wait to see whether Apple upgrade the iPod Touch in a week's time.

Thank you, that's useful. Sorry for being dense about this stuff, and it's nice to have somewhere I can ask the stupid questions!

谢谢你们

Yes, I love it and I will keep using it. However, it crashes when syncing sometimes, even though I've fully recharged it, and a couple of times the sync must have been interrupted this way so that I was given exactly the same questions again. So now I am going to be careful not to sync and skritter at the same time, and to make sure it's synced properly before I go out, because I only have wifi at home.

Thanks Sandeep, I'll take a look!

The new iPod uses the same processor as the iPhone 4, so should have the same performance.

Zeppa   September 13th, 2012 4:36a.m.

The new iPod is not out yet but can be pre-ordered, I think. It shouldn't be any better for Skritter than the current one, though.

nick   September 13th, 2012 2:20p.m.

The new, 5th gen iPod touch will be faster and not have any of the occasional out-of-memory crashes that the current iPod touches have with Skritter.

We haven't figured it out quite yet, but if we adapt the app to make use of the extra screen height, the new iPod touch would get that, too.

Zeppa   September 13th, 2012 2:57p.m.

Yes, I forgot about that important point!

DependableSkeleton   September 14th, 2012 7:49a.m.

I'm guessing that the new iPod/iPhone can run all of the old apps, probably with black bars at the edges. Is that right?

lechuan   September 14th, 2012 11:02a.m.

Yes. They demo'd the black bars (on a black iphone) at the Apple keynote. If you had the white iphone, the bars would be more noticable.
