app update, and app issue

Bohan   September 22nd, 2012 7:55a.m.

Two things:

1. Should I download the updated version of the Skritter app? Sometimes updates aren't as good as the previous version.

2. I've been trying to sync the app, but it keeps closing half-way into the sync, which causes nothing to actually get synced

Bohan   September 22nd, 2012 9:18a.m.

alright, I downloaded the app because I figured it must be good, or else I would have seen something in forum.

I'm actually still unable to sync it. It might be because of a poor connection, but it seems like everything else I'm doing online is working without a hitch

lechuan   September 22nd, 2012 11:47a.m.

did you try deleting and installing the app again?

Bohan   September 22nd, 2012 12:02p.m.

no, because it used to sync without any problems

nick   September 22nd, 2012 12:09p.m.

It crashes during the sync? At what stage does it crash, exactly?

Bohan   September 22nd, 2012 12:15p.m.

it starts syncing like normal, and as usual it shows how many items are being synced. In this case, it's about 2000 items, but it crashes at about 850.

I've been using the web version mostly today, and I think the more I use it, the more items there are to sync. It seems to get about half way through everytime, regardless of the number of items

Bohan   September 23rd, 2012 1:20a.m.

I think there may be something wrong with the app, because I have a stable / good wifi connection now, but it still shuts down halfway into syncing

Bohan   September 23rd, 2012 10:43a.m.

Nick, 怎么办 ?

nick   September 23rd, 2012 1:18p.m.

When I ask what stage it crashes at, I mean: "Counting", "Assembling", "Downloading", or "Saving"?

Are there any crash logs? http://www.iphoneappdevelopment.com/?p=38

If you try to close all other apps such that memory usage is at a minimum, does it get any further?

Bohan   September 23rd, 2012 8:06p.m.

Saving.

How do close other apps ?

Bohan   September 23rd, 2012 8:12p.m.

I didn't quite understand how to send the logs

nick   September 23rd, 2012 8:44p.m.

What platform are you on? I can give more detailed instructions.

To close other apps, you could either force-quit everything by double-tapping the home button, then press-and-holding on each open app until the minus comes up to force quit them. Or you could restart your device and then see if Skritter can save it. This would tell us if it's a memory thing.

Bohan   September 23rd, 2012 9:12p.m.

okay, I double tapped on the home button, and then 4 apps appeared. I pressed/held on 1 of them and they all got the minus signs on them. Then what do I do?

I already tried shutting the device down completely, and turning it on again. Sometimes that helps with things, but not with this

dc1   September 24th, 2012 1:04p.m.

"I pressed/held on 1 of them and they all got the minus signs on them. Then what do I do? "

then you click on the red "minus" signs, one after another, of course.

I recommend that you delete your skritter app and reinstall it, because it is synching fine for me. to delete an app you have to press-hold the app icon on the homescreen without doubletabbing on the homebutton(homescreen = where all the appsymboles are displayed in several pages, depending on how many apps you have installed on your i-device). then click on the black-white "X" symbol and delete it.

next go to the app store, download skritter-ios again and see if synching works.

@nick: regarding app-updates, do you plan to update the iOS app (japanese) for the iphone 5 resolution? I dont own it yet, but "old" iphone 4 apps are displayed with black bars on top and bottom on the iphone 5. if the app supports the native iphone 5 resolution its way nicer to work with it :)

nick   September 24th, 2012 7:13p.m.

Bohan, deleting and reinstalling the app is the next thing to try. I would still love those crash logs, though. If you tell me what operating system you're running, I can give you more detailed instructions on how to find the crash logs.

dc1, yes, we're updating the app to the iPhone 5 resolution and the iPad resolutions. The iPhone 5 will have more room for the top prompt area and the built-in iOS status bar.

Bohan   September 24th, 2012 11:32p.m.

Now it's reaching over 1600 items during the saving stage of the sync.
Nick, I think I just emailed the log to the Skritter team, and I wrote "forward to Nick" in the message

dc1   September 25th, 2012 9:33a.m.

@nick: awesome, thanks for the future iphone5-resolution-update. Great to hear. especially the future support for the ipad resolution is a more than welcome update :) Great!

Bohan   September 25th, 2012 10:28a.m.

@Nick. let me know if the other Skritter guys sent you the sync logs. I think I sent them today, but I'm not positive that they were sent, because I did it with the app

scott   September 25th, 2012 4:17p.m.

Bohan, crash logs are different than sync logs. Did you try the steps in this url?

http://www.iphoneappdevelopment.com/?p=38

Are you on a Windows machine? Mac? Linux?

Bohan   September 26th, 2012 8:52a.m.

Okay, I'm just going to reinstall it now
