Varying numbers per device

Zeppa   October 7th, 2012 2:40p.m.

I know I should probably know this, and I can live with it, but why exactly do I get different numbers of words due on the laptop (42), iPad (29) and iPod (345)?
This is after syncing.
I no longer use the laptop as I can't be bothered to get out the Wacom tablet. I use the iPad at home and the iPod Touch when I'm out.

snowcreature99   October 7th, 2012 3:27p.m.

This has been true for me as well, since the app came out. As best I can tell it does not seem to cause any harm other than reviewing some words more often than needed.

戴德辉   October 7th, 2012 4:43p.m.

Go to your task manager on the iOS device and close the app, then reopen it. It will still be different from the site, but it won't be nearly as drastic as 42 vs. 345.

Zeppa   October 7th, 2012 5:06p.m.

Yes it is still drastic - I had closed and reopened it. I've just closed it again and on reopening it has 364, whereas the web says 57. Closed and reopened the iPad and it says 43. It must have something to do with how often I am using the iPod at the weekend, I suppose.

Zeppa   October 7th, 2012 5:08p.m.

Or did I not close it properly? I just saw the term 'task manager'. What I did was double click so open programs got a minus sign and I tapped again. Is that not closing? I did not know I had a task manager.

戴德辉   October 7th, 2012 5:18p.m.

Yeah that's the task manager, or that's what I think it's called anyway.

Kind of strange to hear it doesn't work... you can try going on the sync page and ask it to compare with the server. If there's a mismatch, I always just clear out local data. I've had to do that a few times and it's worked well, just kind of a hassle.

Zeppa   October 7th, 2012 5:37p.m.

I have a feeling I've been told that before. So I've done that. It gives matches for everything but mismatch for progress. Then I went back to the program and it still says 363! Possibly it only syncs once a day? Never mind.

戴德辉   October 7th, 2012 6:34p.m.

I would still clear out your local data and then log back in and see what happens, it only takes like 5 minutes.

edit: never mind misread your post, jeez how strange. Sorry, I got nothin.

ddapore99   October 7th, 2012 9:23p.m.

Clear out all of your data on the iPod and iPad then sync.

Zeppa   October 8th, 2012 3:17a.m.

Well, I did that. I hate entering my password in these devices, switching between letters and figures! The iPad was ready immediately, and now says 134. The iPod took ten minutes and then switched itself off, and when I turned on I got this message:

"It's gotta go. Reset the app and download anew to coninue. Also, please send us some feedback derscribing what you had been doing when this happened. Thanks!"

I will now work out what "reset the app" means. The iPod Touch is the last model with iOS 6.0.

Does this count as feedback? I had deleted the local data and was syncing again after putting in my username and password.

Zeppa   October 8th, 2012 3:50a.m.

OK, I couldn't find out how to 'reset the app', so I deleted it and made sure it was gone from iPad and iPod, downloaded again. The full sync only took about 4 minutes on the iPod this time and the number of items due is 135.

ddapore99   October 8th, 2012 6:58a.m.

Okay to clear your data without completely deleting the app go into "Settings" then touch the "Account" tab at the bottom. Next scroll to the bottom and click on "Clear Local Data".

There are two ways to send feedback.
1. Click "Help" then "Contact"
2. E-mail them directly; if you click on "about us" at the bottom of the webpage you will find their E-mail addresses and descriptions of what they work on. Send your E-mail to the person most relevant to your issue.

Basically it's just name@skritter.com. I think this also works for Doug, Ben, Chris and Jake.

Thanks, I sent feedback for them to read this thread. Hope that was OK. I think Nick sees this, doesn't he?

I couldn't get into the app at all after I got that error message.
As I said above ('I've done that'), I did clear the local data and it didn't help.

snowcreature99   October 8th, 2012 5:37p.m.

FWIW I've done all the suggestions in this thread at various points. Apps on multiple iOS devices will come out of sync without fail. Kill app, clear local, delete and reinstall, new iOS device etc....

Traded some emails w Skritter on this a few months back, would have to go back to see w/ who.

My 2c: Focus on more pressing priorities on the bug/feature list. Personally can live with this behavior.

Zeppa   October 8th, 2012 6:31p.m.

Yes, as I said at the very beginning, I can live with it - just wondering.

nick   October 8th, 2012 8:11p.m.

It's hard to tell where the sync bug lies that lets things get out of whack like this, but we'll keep working on it. Thanks for y'all's patience.
