Components Ist sorted by HSK Level

Ess2012   October 14th, 2012 1:03p.m.

It would be really useful to have a list of character components sorted by the HSK Level where they first appear.

I know I can add them manually from the character decomposition, but it's time consuming. Is it possible to automatically extract them into a list?

I am a beginner studying components so I can "chunk" the several component characters. I've learnt most of the Radicals list, but I don't think it's quite what I'm after.

Any suggestions?

Confused Laowai's new tool might be of interest to you:

long term, it would be great to have a tool that would break down any list that you gave it while preserving the order of characters.

Hi lechuan,

thanks for posting my tool there.

I'm working on some more features in the background, but Ess2012, if I understand correctly, would you like a list of components that's sorted by first appearance in HSK level?

So for instance:

讠(言) would first appear in HSK level 1.

I'll see if I can quickly code something together for this.

So I spent the day to code this up using code from HanziJS.

I hope this is what you have been looking for:

http://confusedlaowai.com/hsklistfirstoccurrencesorted.txt

It is a list of components sorted by level and their first occurrence in HSK. It works as follows:

Nr of radical according to Kangxi Radical list: HSK Level, First Character Occurrence

I used nciku's list of characters and they seemed to be ordered by frequency in each level too.

I've added additional information on some radicals based on their bound forms and simplified forms if they were not found.

So for instance this entry:

18) 刀: 1, 分 (刂: 1, 前)

刂is the bound form of the radical 刀. The bound form first appears in 前 which is a level 1 character. Be sure check out some of the "not found" radicals which do have additional info, because the radicals are in traditional format or not bound. For instance:

147) 見: not found (见: 1, 现)

Have fun! I had fun coding this. I found quite a few inconsistencies in my data, so I fixed a few bugs along the way too.

Thanks ConfusedLaowai,

I suspect that's exactly what I wanted, but I don't know how to get it into Skitter (sorry, new to this).

I'm pleasantly surprised that there only seem to be a couple of hundred basic components - I've been working through the Skritter "Radicals" list and I'm 70% of the way through aready.
