C'mon Skritter. Let's get with the times and start developing for the future.

We don't have the development resources to do that. See these threads for more information:

Has anyone ever been able to use Skritter on a recent version of Android?

If so, could we get a detailed how to?

I've tried installing Flash and Firefox which works very well except it totally doesn't recognize input.

:(

Massive disappointment.

LeeHunter   January 4th, 2013 9:05p.m.

Actually I just managed to get it working on Jelly Bean by following the instructions here. http://wccftech.com/download-and-install-flash-player-for-android-4-1-4-2-jellybean/

The Skritter UX on Android is now even more wretched, if that's possible, but it does work.

Setting Android=true doesn't seem to make any difference whatsoever.

I wanted to add that, as noted above, I was able to get Skritter working (more or less) on my phone (Galaxy S/Cyanogenmod Jelly Bean) using the older Dolphin browser but nothing seems to work on my tablet (Asus TF201 with stock OS) using any browser (Firefox, Firefox beta, Dolphin etc).

While Skritter on my phone works, it has a really annoying bug (or possibly a couple). It acts as if it is receiving random input from an invisible hand on some (but not all) tone and definition cards. When one of these rogue cards displays it either skips to the next card (flashing briefly on the screen) or the 'invisible hand' makes a random press on one of the other keys (e.g. makes a guess of the tone).

If the card skips I can usually get back to it by pressing the previous key and then the next key (although sometimes I have to do this multiple times.

In the case where the invisible hand has made it's own guess, well, there's not much I can do as it's just screwed my learning experience for that card.

Hi Skritter.

I have been recommended this great service from a few friends studying Chinese and said that using Skritter has helped them immensely.

It was my disappointment that there was no Android app, but I was even more shocked that there would be NO development for an Android version.

Android users have now grown to a point where they will be own a majority of the market but I can understand from a development point of view that catering for another OS is difficult and uses a great deal of resources.

However, as it is obvious there is a great demand for this as well as the potential ROI on the amount of subscribers that would follow it surely seems odd from a business perspective.

Regardless, I was wondering if you weren't willing to develop one, what would be your opinion be if the community helped developed it with you - of course there would be some sort of license fee required but I really do feel you are underestimating how much benefit it has especially as it is a teaching tool after all.

Would anyone else be interested in the idea?

My 2 pence.

Tim

We're open to ideas for licensing and/or community development--we'd like to see Skritter on Android--but it will need some skilled, committed development leadership to come together, as apps like Skritter are quite complicated to make.

I love skritter, but I am going to be ditching my iphone for an android phone in the next few months and I'll have to cancel my subscription after that. :/
