same character; different meaning

marchey   February 21st, 2013 2:50a.m.

Is there a standard way skritter deals with one character having several meanings? Take for instance 缝: on the flashcard the translation is
sew
seam;crack
Is the fact that seam;crack appears on the second line a coïncidence, or is this the way skritter separates different meanings? (seam and crack then being just synonims and therefor being separated by the semi-column). Is there another system in place? Maybe not, but it would be useful to have one. Using numbers as in a dictionary is maybe a good solution.

From the style guide (http://beta.skritter.com/style_guide), check the top half (Pinyin) for single characters with multiple pronunciations.

having the meaning on the 2nd line means that definition is matching to the 2nd pronunciation (feng4)
The 1st definition is only for the 1st pronunciation (feng2)

Ok, everything is clear now. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Glad this came up - I thought that is how it worked... but I saw something that confused me with 都.

The first definition is Metropolis, but the first pronunciation is dou1. Those do not match. Am I missing something?

@mendre, I just took a look in the ballar and the first definition for 都 appears to be all on my end, with the second line showing the metropolis definition. Im not sure if one of the team members already made the change, but everything looks good on my end.

Are you using Skritter.com, beta.skritter.com or the iOS?

I'm using Skritter.com and iOS. The issue of Metropolis showing up first was on iOS. I will check it again next time it comes up. Thanks for the input!
