Generating word lists

Christian   April 11th, 2013 12:56p.m.

There used to be this tool for generating word lists at http://huygens.functor.nl/skritter/wordlist/ , which seems defunct now.

Does anybody know its whereabouts? Is it still active, but under another address?

Never mind, I hacked together a Perl script myself to generate similar wordlists.

learninglife   April 12th, 2013 10:42a.m.

why hack a list? i just input the word I want to learn and thats it. skritter generates the list which you then even can export and input into quizlet for flashcard learning.

To clarify: The word list generator I mentioned was meant to find new words using characters you already know, to expand your vocabulary.

This is the functionality I recreated for myself.

I just put a script online that does this; lets you paste your Skritter words list in and gives this kind of info: http://hskhsk.com/analyse

Thanks, Alan, that's a great collection of tools!

One more idea from my side: For your top frequent characters, words etc. to learn list, it would be nice to have an indication of the range these are in (e.g. first unknown character is #397, last unknown character is #1225) - that gives you an idea how frequent those really are.

Great idea- thanks. I've added an option to output the frequency index and raw frequency numbers for each word or character. These are tab separated so could be pasted into Excel etc. for further analysis.
