Cantonese for Mandarin learners

Schnabelhund   June 12th, 2013 12:30a.m.

I got into Cantonese some time ago. It was an on-again, off-again study subject for the past year or so and I finally got a language exchange partner to practice with.

Is there anybody who's studying Cantonese here? From what I've learned so far, it seems that we as Mandarin learners really are halfway there already and it's easy the get the hang of many concepts for us. Is it also gonna be this way on somewhat higher levels?

I think it's worth trying to learn at least some of it, you know, for fun :)

I am learning both Mandarin and Cantonese dialects with much more attention paid to Mandarin. Likewise on Skritter, both Simplified and Traditional, where I prefer Traditional.

Is Mandarin immensely helpful for learning Cantonese to you?
