Sync issues

I'm really getting tired of this... During the last days things get worse, no matter how many times I delete the app. On iOS it says that I have 45 reviews pending and on the website it's 90 something. Since the app update when I manually add new characters the number of pending reviews doesn't get updated properly anymore either. First it doesn't update at all, even though it says ADDED. Then it takes a minute to update the pending reviews. After I do the first of the 13 new reviews the figure drops to 10. Another one and then it drops to 3. After the third review it says again 0 pending. Anyone else having problems?

I noticed problems for the first time day. I studied for about 15 minutes on the website but it didn't show up on the app. I ended up just doing the reviews over again.

This may be due to a change in the way App Engine produced certain very important values, which our code was not ready to handle. I've set up Skritter to use the legacy system for the time being. The problems were particularly for people using iOS, I think. The change happened on June 12th, so if you've seen more issues since then, it's probably because of that.

Another one is that without closing the app or going to main screeen, this morning suddenly two times the message ASSEMBLING... popped up when I was in the subway. Maybe related as well...?

I regularly shift between my iPad and iPhone to use Skritter. I've noticed that the auto-sync on startup doesn't actually sync anything. I have to go in to the settings and force sync for it to sync more often than not.

Scott, yeah, that's more or less the time when I started seeing a lot of "Oops, clean it out.... delete all your data and restart" messages.
They're gone now, but were quite a nuisance for about a week.

My iphone 5 is still not syncing with the website. It' s been like this for at least a few weeks. Never improved.

seems to be no problem here in china this time. syncing and use without problems. (touch wood!!!)

Seems that now the sync is working properly.

Two questions, though!

1st, I don't know what you changed, but in the past, (like before the problems started), the no. of pending reviews was updated immediately, you could instantly see the correct figure. Now, even when sync traffic light is green, and you start to study, it can happen that after 10, 20 or 30 seconds, the figure jumps from 2, 5.. whatever you had, and show you the real number. There is a significant delay, which was not there before. WAD?

2nd, especially for those times we have to re-install the app, but also for when adding many characters at once, I am wondering why the server is so slow? Is it something you influence or is it an Apple issue? For example the initial sync, where it says, adding char 23/1345 etc., it takes several minutes... and later also, when it says "downloading 50 KB", it seems like information is coming with 2 or 3 KB / sec, regardless of my own connection. You're aware of that?

There have always been some issues with the number of reviews not updating quickly when you resume study all the time; we're not exactly sure when you wouldn't see them, but it's on our list to improve the responsiveness of that refresh.

The server sync takes a while in the first phase because it's hard for the server to assemble all the data it needs for your account, so it has to spawn hundreds of subtasks to search for and assemble it all. The second phase, where you're downloading and saving the result, usually only says "Downloading" for a short time, then switches to "Saving"--at that point it has all been downloaded, but it takes a while to just write the data to the phone's database because it has to build all the related database indices when it inserts all the items. (If you see it say "Downloading" the whole way, then there's probably a connection speed issue somewhere, but we haven't heard about it.)
