Get rid of traditional characters in Skritter/Pleco

zhangyanglu   July 21st, 2013 10:58a.m.

Is there any way to get rid of the trad. hanzi when looking up the character explanation with Pleco (inside Skritter)?

I find it rather annoying to see them always because when I study a new character I unwillingly always look at the traditional one as well and get distracted/confused.

at the bottom of the pleco app there you go to the second position. there you can switch between trad. and new character.

That will toggle between them, but to get rid of traditional altogether go into the Pleco "Settings" screen, tap "Dictionary," "Entry Display," and set "Headword Mode" to "One Set Only."

@mikelove I just did the actions you described in the "entry display", then returned to the dictionary and there I still can switch between trad. and modern char.

any idea?

Didn't work for me either?

You can still switch between them, but making that configuration change means that it will only display the one you picked, not the opposite one; it gets rid of the [] after each headword, in other words. It won't take effect until you do a new search, though.

Maybe we haven't been taking bout the same thing :) I meant the info in Skritter on the characters and the parts they are made of.
When you click in Skritter on the Iirtle i for info.

Ah, sorry, when you said "looking up the character explanation within Pleco" I thought you were talking about what you get to after you tap on the Pleco icon in that (i) screen - wouldn't help for the text that's actually displayed within the Skritter app.

Would love to get rid of this from skritter too

There isn't any way to make it not show the alternate traditional/simplified forms in the world details view in the iOS app, nor on the word details view on the web app. Our impression is that far more users want that than don't want that, and most users don't care, so it's not something we would add an extra preference for.
