Is it necessary to re-write missed words for practice?

Currently if I mess up a word, I'll write it over twice. Takes a long time to get through my review words however.

I find it helpful to re-write a character a couple times before moving on if it's particularly tricky or one that I forgot. I've read somewhere that rewriting a character more than three times (for example, 15 times) doesn't help much more than just writing it two or three, I can't remember the exact reasoning though.

it makes a difference if you just do the same movement with your hands or if you THINK what you are doing. what radicals the character consists of and stuff.

"Go Slow to Go Fast". It's worth spending the time to re-learn the character once you get it wrong instead of getting it wrong over and over hoping that it will stick.

Agree with above - do it 2 or 3 times if get it wrong (thinking about it carefully as itaju says), will save time in the long run. Want to have more practice writing it right than you have writing it wrong, after all ...

Cool, thank you for the replies.

On a PC i got this great software called mypaint. It interacts really well with the wacom tablet and it's free. Whenever i fail a character on skritter I try to write it(caracter+pinyin+english translation) on mypaint, but not right away. I only write it after i reviewed some other character on skritter. This way i force the brain to memorize the character while i practice something else.

In mypaint as i write a lot of characters over time, I eventually get a bit poster that I can print full of all the characters that I failed recently. And is way better than doing it on paper as is I can undo the strokes when they don't come out the way I want(undo is faster than using rubber).
