Anyone know any fun adventure games in Chinese? I read the earlier thread on video games, but am looking for something more text/story heavy. Like antimoon recommends here: http://www.antimoon.com/how/advgames.htm

While I'm on the subject, are Chinese video games any good? I think an adventure game from China would be great because of the cultural value. RPGs are ok too, though spending hours grinding monsters is not really my style.

Anything to stop me from watching 喜羊羊。。。

I would be very interested in something like this - either original games (though it's easy to make a bad adventure game), or translations of other games, which would potentially include the benefit of understanding the language better thanks to recognition from an earlier, English-language playthrough. I've been on a huge adventure-gaming kick lately, with 3-4 going at a time and 10-15 more in line...

Anyway, I popped over to ScummVM's forums and posed the question, so hopefully that should give some responses. Maybe I should ask on Just Adventure as well...

三國志11 is a really fun game. Basically you build cities and train armies to send to war. It really in depth and takes a long time to play because your goal is almost always to take over all of China. There is a lot of conversation in it too. I had to delete it as because I　was far too addicted and I kept telling myself I was using it to learn Chinese.

三國志 looks awesome, its a shame its traditional as it makes it a bit hard going.

I think there may be a Chinese version of Escape from Monkey Island, but when I looked i could never find anywhere to download it.

Escape from Monkey Island in Chinese would be terrific - sure, it's the black sheep of the series, but I've got a replay on my to-do list anyway, so making it a replay in Chinese would be huge.

Is that 三国志 the same game series that Koei has been publishing for the last 20 or so years? It could be fun to try out, but an adventure game it is not. For shinyspoons, I believe the game is also available with simplified characters, should be pretty cheap if you're in China, or you could probably try it out at a netbar.

In other news, someone responded to the ScummVM forum post, and it seems that there is a fanmade 简体字 translation of Grim Fandango available here: http://www.grim-fandango.com/languages.php

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to assume that it's text-only, hopefully with the English audio still intact so we can use the spoken language as a window into the meaning of the subtitles. Ideally, of course, it would include speech, but that looks like a no-go (that is, unless a bunch of Skritterites decided to do some voicework and figure out how to replace the speech file so everything played properly...). Either way, I'm about 1/3 of the way through a Grim playthrough right now, so I might backup my saved games, install the language patch, and start again from the beginning soon - I'll be sure to share my impressions if I do.

As for other games, the guy gave another link that showed that a couple LucasArts games (Indy and the Last Crusade, The Dig) had been released in China, but didn't have any info on the actual language used in the games.

资本主义II - Chinese game, sold in the US as "Capitalism 2". 2001. The goal is to become the CEO of the biggest company in the world. Pretty in depth sim. I still haven't figured out the rules, but it looks fun. Picture:
