Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

legacy.skritter.cn

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

204 两百零四

and for numbers ending 10-19:
113 一百一十三
1040 一千零一十四

and
10000; 10, 0000; 100,0000; 1000,0000; 1,0000,0000
万 十万 百万 千万 亿 (also 十亿 百亿 千亿 万亿)

I want to add all the different characters.

Such as:

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 2nd(两), 100, 1000, etc. It seems all the counting are based on these few? Just wanted to make sure...

Yes, that's right.

So 一二三四五六七八九十 百 千 万 亿
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 'hundreds' 'thousands' '10 thousands' '100 millions'

but one hundred would generally be 一百 rather than just 百, and same for 一千,一万 etc...

There are also numbers 1 to 9 for banking which are more complex, but don't worry about those. Also 幺 yao1 is used for 1 when saying phone numbers.

For ‘ten thousand’ and ‘hundred million’ 万 and 亿 are already considered complex enough and do not require something more elaborated. 萬 and億 are actually the traditional fonts, and if they are ever used, one should be consistent and also use貳, 陸 and 圓 (for dollar) instead of贰, 陆 and 圆.

Even after studying Chinese for many years I still have trouble quickly going back and forth from Chinese numbers. Maybe Skritter could add a feature that helps with this? Show a number in Chinese and have the users punch in the numerals and vise versa.

Have you tried doing arithmetic in Chinese? I found that very useful in Spanish for building fluency with numbers.

Thank you everyone for the tips. My problem though is not in actually making the conversions, but in making them quickly. When hearing particularly large numbers it takes me a little while to consider the decimal places. I feel skritter could be a big help with this.

I don't think we'll add a feature in Skritter for this. If someone else wanted to make a quick script or page for number practice, though, we'd link to it. Really all you'd need is a script to generate random large numbers in Chinese/English, print one form and ask for the other, and then show the answer and go to the next one. I bet it's like 20 lines of code.
