Just want to check something -- sorry if this is answered elsewhere.

On the progress page, is 'characters added' referring to *different* characters added, or all the characters added, including duplicates?

It seems like there would have to be at least 30 characters per lesson for the stat to be distinct. I mmight be wrong but it doesn't feel like there are that many.

And the people who talked about skritter addiction are right. My network connection wasn't working this morning and I started panicking about the review list and dragged myself to a cafe with wifi. Help...?

Skritter doesn't add duplicate characters.

From my experience of completing several of the vocab lists then starting on the first HSK character 1ist.
Skritter just loaded for a long time skipping through all the basic characters I had already added and then started on some later characters, starting with 苹 if I recall correctly....

One question I have: If you successfully write a character/tone the first time, is it added to your list? Or does skritter assume you know it already?

Yup, characters are only counted once when you add them the first time. When adding new characters from a list it skips over ones that have already been added.

And yes, if you know a character the first time you see it, it is still part of your study schedule, but the next review is scheduled for about a week later, rather than a few minutes later. All characters need to be reviewed at some point, no matter how well you know them, but since we don't know how well you know a character you learned before using Skritter, we set it in the not too distance future in case you don't know it that well. If you get it wrong the second time, then you learn it more thoroughly, and if you keep getting it right, that character doesn't take up very much review time.

where do i select the vocabularty list from?

If you've created an account, you can go to the vocabulary tab on the "home" section of the site, and that's where the vocabulary lists live.
