Problem with Chinesepod lists

Lunetta   May 3rd, 2009 6:03a.m.

I've been using the new option to create lists from ChinesePod but it's behaving in a strange manner. For some reason the lists disappear from the active lists by themselves even though not all the items have been practiced and I haven't paused or stopped the lists myself. Is it me doing something wrong or is it a bug?

All lists are automatically turned off once they are finished being added from, and ChinesePod lists tend to be short so they stop sooner than most lists. Also, there's a bit of a disconnect between adding words and seeing them, so even if it stops before you've seen the rest of the words, they should have still been added and should be seen soon.

Now that I think about it, though, I should probably make a different system for the labels, since more could be added to them as you use them. They're unique in that they could change at any time. It's going to need a more complicated system though, so for now I'll just make it so that labels get paused instead of stopped once you get through them.

Was it your label C0114 that disappeared? Because I checked and it shows on the list browser that all words were added from it. Were there any other lists that kept on being stopped? You can check to see if a word was added by looking at the boxes to the right; the letters (C, T) will be bold if the character or the tone have been added, respectively.

It has happened to all my ChinesePod lists. When I look at them only some of the words are bold and it seems like it's only the first ten or so that will be added. I never seem to be able to get to the words further down the individual list.

I am wondering if it's part of another problem that I've been having. Whenever I've finished with the words lined up for practice and begin adding new words, the page will stop working after a short while. It keeps downloading the information but never gets finished.

I checked your active labels and it looks like they're all bold now, or did you add the ones that were missed manually?

It only getting through the first ten may be an artifact of something else; I think I can fix that very soon.

I think it might be connected to the problem you describe. We have the pointer where you are on a given list moved forward before the actual items are added, so it's possible for the system to have moved the list forward without actually adding the desired items. If you leave the practice page while it's in the middle of adding new characters, this could happen. It's going to be tough reversing that order for some hard to explain reasons, but we'll figure something out. I'm not sure why you in particular would be having difficulties with this; has anyone else been getting trouble from the ChinesePod lists?

I'll get working on this Lunetta, thanks for the bug report.
