文兽 as suggested by Chloe is something near. The character 兽 is a synonym of ‘critter’, and 文 refers to language learning, especially writing. But 兽 is too brutal or untamed, and not in agreement with the mascot which always reminds me of McDonald's.

I’d suggest 文仔 where 仔 means a young animal, like the word 牛仔, 猪仔, and refers to the furry guy in the logo. Young animals are playful, active and lively. It conveys a sense of loveliness, and brings the site closer with the users. 文仔 is always ready to play the game of character writing with anyone who visit him.

Further more, if a Japanese name is needed, 文仔 can be translated into 文ちゃん。

I like these. 文仔 sounds pretty good. Other thoughts? We do need a Chinese name at some point.

Unfortunately 文仔 is a homonym of 蚊子 (wen2zi - mosquito). Keep looking?

文仔 also souds like 灣仔 (place in Hong Kong)

Anyway, choose anything but simp chars :p

To clarify a bit, 文仔 is pronounced as [wénzǎi]; 蚊子 is [wénzi], a light tone and 灣仔 is [wānzǎi].

Oh, gotcha, my mistake. I have no objections to 文仔.

It is inconvenient that 仔 has so many readings, though. Especially for learners who aren't going to know that zǎi makes the most sense in this case.

If you were to add the Chinese characters to the homepage or masthead or something, it might make sense to add the pinyin alongside in this case.
