Android update causes spike in reviews due

Lycurgus   December 15th, 2014 5:51a.m.

The last update to the android app seemed to cause a spike in the number of reviews. I was averaging 150 or so reviews a day before the update and after updating it says I have 550 due. I haven't missed a day of studying, so what's going one here? It's very difficult to bring the number down to 0 again as I only have a limited amount of time to review each day. Why the sudden flood of reviews due?

It also says that these due reviews are new. Did the update wipe my review history? If this is the case please find some fix as this would mean the loss of a month's progress.

Hey Lycurgus, I've looked at your account and the server has been recording your reviews. It looks like the due count prior to the update was incorrect and should have been higher. I'm looking into why it's saying the items are new, because your account doesn't have any new items that you haven't studied. If you've updated through several versions of Android it might be a good idea to use the "restore data" button from the account screen.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting your review count down to zero. As long as you're getting things right and not adding new words then it'll make it down to zero given your current daily study rate.

Hello Josh, thanks for your response. I have a question about how auto-adding works. If I have auto-adding turned on and the daily limit set to 20, will this automatically add 20 words a day? Or does this only add new words if my due review count reaches 0? I would like to keep adding words automatically, but I want to be sure I get this large chunk of reviews down correctly first (especially if I haven't seen these cards as much as the original algorithm should have shown them).

Auto-adding will only kick in when your due count gets down to less than 5. It'll also only add 1 word at a time until the daily limit has been reached.

I see the logic in not adding until the due count is less than 5. However, adding only one at a time means that the various kinds of practice for the same word/char show up closely in time: the tone, writing and definition sometimes are just a couple of reviews apart. If it were up to me I'd add a few, say 5, at a time to avoid that close spacing.
