Where do I find my vocab list? I want to delete some words.

rnyhoff   May 18th, 2009 6:02a.m.

I have added all my own words that correspond with my chinese lessons using the "Your Queue" uploader. I have not uploaded any official lists so I don't really know what it would look like if I could find the list.

Where do I find my list and delete some words?

scott   May 18th, 2009 9:02a.m.

Right now there's no mechanism for deleting words you added with your queue, I'm afraid. I'm going to be working on making the custom list builder this week, as soon as I finish a few more things for the billing page (paypal, monthly subscriptions, coupons). Then once the custom list builder is built, you can create lists that you can add and delete words from, but that's not a very straightforward way to delete words. I can probably also add a button on the add word widget so that it deletes the words you've validated rather than adds them. What do you think of that? Also, we used to have a button for deleting (or ignoring) items while you practice them, but we haven't gotten around to reworking the UI for that yet. Hopefully Nick can work on that soon!

Hi, Scott
How is it going with custom list builder?
Currently I am studying at chinese courses and our teacher give us a wordlist for recalling after every lesson.
If I had a possibilty to create multiple custom lists, I would definitely buy a subscription :-)

Working on it today! And have been working on it last week and some the week before even. Can't say how much longer it will take but I think it'll be ready pretty soon. And then you'll be able to make as many lists as you want, and even share them with others if you like!

Senmu   July 10th, 2009 3:04a.m.

Hi Scott!

So it seems that there isn't a way to delete individual words already added from a list unless one cumbersomely opens the list as a 'custom list' hitting the 'remix' button and then deleting words for the custom list.

Is my understanding here correct?

scott   July 10th, 2009 10:59a.m.

As in, you want to stop studying words that you have added from a list? To do that, you can go to the list, click the Delete tab, and select a section to delete, or you can go to the Browse tab on the same page and select specific words, then click the Delete button. So you can either delete swaths of words added to lists or you can delete individual words, and even characters if you use the expand/collapse button.

Is that what you're looking to do?

Senmu   August 22nd, 2009 3:37a.m.

Well yes, Scott that is what I want to do, but I don't have any 'active lists' anymore so I don't think I can access that. So what do you suggest?

Hobbes828   August 22nd, 2009 3:28p.m.

well i don't think you should have to "remix" the list again but if you are done studying it and it is your custom list you should be able to go to vocabulary->custom lists->"your lists" tab and then browse/delete the list you want from there. I guess it isn't much easier than remixing but it does let you take words off your studying without actually editing the list in question.

If you have already finished the list and gotten the words correctly, you could always just get them right a couple more times and they won't appear for a long while ;)

(at least I leave easy ones in the lists still partly so that they will still count on my stats :)

Senmu   August 28th, 2009 2:10a.m.

Well I've tried both of your suggestions, but the problem is I seem to have no 'list' On the vocab page, it says I have 'no active lists.' Then when I also go to custom lists> Your lists it confirms I have no lists.

So without access to the words I've already studied and continue to review how can I delete the words that I didn't want in the first place but just came with the original textbook list?

I suppose I could try using the ignore button or selecting 'correct' when the words appear in my practice session but I'd prefer more accuracy.

Looks like there were three textbook lists you added from, and everyone has access too all the textbook lists. You can go to those lists from the vocabulary page where it lists all the textbooks. For convenience, here are the links to the three texts you studied from.

From any of these pages you can either:

1) Go to the browse tab and select individual words, then click 'delete'. Those words will no longer be studied.

2) Go to the delete tab and select whole sections, then click 'delete selected'. Words from those sections will no longer be studied.

Let me know if that doesn't work!

Senmu   August 30th, 2009 7:28p.m.

Thanks, that really helped. I'm sorry, but the lists organization isn't intuitive for me. I guess I understand it better now. All the lists are able to access 'my words' even after I've removed a list from active study in 'my lists.' So I just scan thru the whole list and then delete words. Hopefully that should work fine. I'll come back here if it doesn't.

Skritter is a great tool and I am learning a lot with the characters. I can understand we are still in the early days of using it and not everything is intuitive.
